HORMONES
Understanding your hormones changes everything.

Your body has been talking to you your whole life.

Nobody ever taught you how to listen.

The Crisis Nobody Warned You About

The life you’ve spent years building suddenly feels… intolerable.

You still love your family. You still care about your career. You still want the life you’ve created. But somehow everything feels heavier than it used to. Your patience gets shorter. Your capacity disappears. You become more emotional, more reactive, more exhausted. Sometimes you even catch yourself daydreaming about running away.

Most women think they’ve suddenly become the problem.
I don’t.

I think this is the beginning of one of the most important conversations you’ll ever have with your body.

For many women, this season begins somewhere in their late thirties or early forties. It often arrives quietly, disguised as stress, burnout, anxiety, or simply feeling like you’ve lost yourself. What many women don’t realize is that this is often the beginning of perimenopause- a completely normal biological transition that can last for years before menopause.

The crisis isn’t that you’re broken.

The crisis is that nobody warned you this was coming.

Here’s the Part Nobody Explains

For years we’ve been taught that hormones control our periods and our ability to have babies.

That's far from all they do.

Your endocrine system is your body’s communication system. Hormones are constantly sending messages throughout your body, influencing your brain, your emotions, your metabolism, your sleep, your muscles, your bones, your stress response, your heart, and your relationships. They don’t work in isolation. They influence nearly every system that allows you to feel healthy, capable, and resilient.

When hormones begin changing, everything connected to them begins changing too.

That’s why perimenopause doesn’t just affect your cycle. It affects your entire life.

What if Your Hormones Aren’t Betraying You?

One of the biggest shifts in my own thinking happened when I stopped seeing hormones as something working against me and started seeing them as something working for me.

I don’t believe hormones create all of our problems.

I believe they reveal them.

They reveal the stress we’ve been carrying for years. The resentment we’ve been swallowing. The boundaries we’ve never set. The dreams we’ve quietly put aside. The health we’ve neglected while trying to take care of everyone else.

For me, hormones are truth tellers.
Not because they create a new reality, but because they often remove our ability to keep pretending the old one is working.
That’s my philosophy. The science explains what’s happening inside your body. My experience has taught me to also ask what your body might be asking you to pay attention to.

Why This Matters Now

For most of human history, women simply weren’t living thirty or forty years beyond menopause.

Today we are.

Our bodies haven’t evolved nearly as quickly as the world around us has. We’re asking women to build careers, raise children, care for aging parents, maintain relationships, stay physically healthy, and carry emotional loads that previous generations never experienced in quite the same way- all while the hormones that have supported those systems for decades begin fluctuating.

Modern medicine isn’t trying to make women young again.

It’s helping women stay healthy in a world that asks far more of them than it ever has before.

That’s why this conversation matters.

Support Is an Option

One of the biggest changes in women’s health over the last two decades has been our understanding of hormone replacement therapy.

The science has evolved.

Today, we know estrogen isn’t simply a reproductive hormone. It’s a whole-body hormone that supports the brain, bones, muscles, cardiovascular system, urinary tract, and many of the systems that help women feel like themselves.

As estrogen and progesterone begin fluctuating during perimenopause, cortisol- the body’s primary stress hormone- often becomes much louder. That’s one of the reasons so many women describe this season as feeling like they’re constantly living in survival mode.

Hormone replacement therapy isn’t the right choice for every woman, but for many, it’s been life-changing.

Understanding the evidence, knowing your options, and having informed conversations with a qualified healthcare provider can make all the difference. Just make sure the qualified healthcare provider you are seeing understands your symptoms in relation to the science of hormones.

Understanding Comes First

Before you decide whether HRT is right for you…
Before you buy another supplement…
Before you blame yourself…

Understand what’s happening.

When you understand your body, you stop believing you’re broken. You begin making decisions from knowledge instead of fear, and from confidence instead of confusion. That’s where rebuilding begins.

Something Worth Thinking About…

I don’t believe we’re meant to stay the same woman forever.

Every season asks something different of us. The woman who carried you through your twenties may not be the woman who carries you through your forties.

That isn’t failure. That’s growth.

I believe God gives us what we need for the season we’re in. Sometimes that growth comes through joy. Sometimes it comes through struggle. And sometimes it comes through a body that finally asks us to slow down, pay attention, and rebuild.

Maybe this season isn’t here to take something away from you. Maybe it’s here to introduce you to the woman you’re becoming in this next season of your life.
